INTRODUCTION TO VIDEO GAME REPAIR COURSE

Are you interested in repairing electronics, being able to fix those old video game consoles, controllers, handhelds, etc you have laying around, want a side hustle doing repairs for others, or just looking for something fun to try. The Retro Sink is excited to offer our first video game repair course this June. Registration will be limited to 10 seats for each class.

Details:

  • $400 for the course (Includes all 8 classes + electronics tool kit)

  • Maximum of 10 people per class 

  • Tools needed will be provided

  • Must be 14+ years old. If under the age of 18 you need a signed waiver from a parent or guardian

  • Classes will take place on Tuesday evenings starting at 6pm and will be 2 hours long each

  • Each class with be 1 hour of discussion and 1 hour of lab

  • Everyone will be required to sign a liability waiver that can be found HERE*

*Waivers will be available when you come or you can print one to fill out and bring with you

Class 1 - Introduction to Video Game Repair

Summary:  This will be an introduction to the steps that go into repairing video game systems, tools, troubleshooting, types of common problems, and is intended to set the stage for the other classes following.  


Who is this for?  

  • Anyone interested in learning high level information on what goes into video game repair.

  • Anyone planning on taking one or all of the other classes


Prerequisite recommended: None


Class 2 - Disassembly/Reassembly 

Summary: Introduction to the process of the disassembly and reassembly of a system including common tools, best practices, common mistakes, and tips/tricks.  1 hour of instruction and 1 hour of lab time. 


Who is this for?  

  • Anyone who is looking to be able to perform maintenance on their systems such as cleaning and basic repair 

  • Anyone planning on taking one or all of the other classes


Prerequisite recommended: Introduction to video game repair


Class 3 - Intro to Soldering 

Summary: Introduction to soldering, soldering tools, types of soldering, common components, safety requirements, tips/tricks, and best practices



Who is this for?  

  • Anyone who is looking to be able to perform basic to electrical/component repairs or modding

  • Anyone planning on taking one or all of the other classes


Prerequisite recommended: Introduction to video game repair, Disassembly/Reassembly


Class 4 - Cartridge Based Console Repair

Summary: Introduction to basic repair of cartridge based systems including common problems, testing, best practices, and tips/tricks.


Who is this for?  

  • Anyone who is looking to learn basic troubleshooting and repair of cartridge based consoles such as NES, SNES, Genesis, and N64


Prerequisite recommended: Introduction to video game repair, Disassembly/Reassembly, Basic Soldering



Class 5 - Disc based Console Repair  

Summary:  Introduction to basic repair of disc based systems including common problems, testing, best practices, and tips/tricks.



Who is this for?  

  • Anyone who is looking to learn basic troubleshooting and repair of disc based consoles such as Playstation, dreamcast, and xbox


Prerequisite recommended: Introduction to video game repair, Disassembly/Reassembly, Basic Soldering


Class 6 - Disc Drive Repair 

Summary:  Introduction to basic repair of disc drives including common problems, testing, best practices, and tips/tricks


Who is this for?  

  • Anyone who is looking to learn basic troubleshooting and repair of different types of disc drives

Prerequisite recommended: Introduction to video game repair, Disassembly/Reassembly, Basic soldering


Class 7 - Controller Repair 

Summary:  Introduction to basic repair of disc drives including common problems, testing, best practices, and tips/tricks


Who is this for?  

  • Anyone who is looking to learn basic troubleshooting and repair of different types of controllers including joystick replacement, battery replacement, and cleaning methods.

Class 8 - Handheld Console Repair 


Summary:  Introduction to basic repair of handheld systems including common problems, testing, best practices, and tips/tricks


Who is this for?  

  • Anyone who is looking to learn basic troubleshooting and repair of different types of controllers including joystick replacement, battery replacement, and cleaning methods.
